Pittsburgh Pirates Interview

 1) I found the qualifications necessary in the field because I didn't realize how many and how much experience was needed. I had no idea of how extensive they would be.

What qualifications are there to get into your field?

-Lauren, Pixel Pop Media Senior

The qualifications usually pertain to your experience with design software - usually Adobe Creative Suite - so mainly Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop, but After Effects, Lightroom and Acrobat can be very helpful as well; and your experience with designing layouts for brochures and publications, logos, web graphics and even motion graphics. Any actually work experience in the field is usually looked for. Internships and freelance for example. Also being able to multi-task and having a passion for design is key.

2) I think it was important to gain a greater understanding of the duties and tasks of the creative department. I had no clue what was expected of this department so it is interesting to learn about how much they really do.

What does one do in the Creative Department?

-Jemma, Pixel Pop Media Senior

At the Pirates we do a large variety of things from print and web to digital and motion. Ads, logos, t-shirts, apparel, packaging, brochure and publication design, motion graphics and on occasion video and TV. We do a lot of large format signage, back-lit signs, wall graphics, banners and environment design. We collaborate with Marketing, Sales, Community and Corporate Partnerships to brand the Pirates, sell tickets and sponsorships and interact and communicate with the community.

3) I was intrigued by the interview process because face-to-face interviews can be very intimidating so I enjoyed reading about an alternate format for the interview process. I think it could be interesting to be interviewed in a new format as well as maybe ease some of the initial anxiety of a face-to-face interview.
